Lionel Richie

Hello Tour / Virginia Beach, VA, U.S.

July 10, 2019

All night long, music legend Lionel Richie delivered all the hits with energy and passion from his days with The Commodores. He knew exactly how to relate to fans of all ages, from 8 to 81, like the master entertainer he has always been. Mashups like “Easy/My Love” and “Brick House/Fire” were met with voices raised to the heavens from thousands inside Old Dominion University’s TED Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Virginia July 10, 2019.

With the first line of fan favourite “Dancing on the Ceiling”, the party broke out and the venue was hopping, as promised, making it a perfect night. When he broke out into his soulful sultry voice with “Lady” and “Easy” everyone stopped and sang softly so they could drink in the moments hearing these iconic songs live from the knight in shining armour, himself.

Having listened to hit song “Brick House” growing up, I could never imagine a woman shaped like a brick house being attractive to anyone, but I took things too literally back then. Regardless, the tune proved addictive and I still remembered every single word that night. I also found it amusing that women were passing their handkerchiefs up to the front row where Lionel would awkwardly but graciously take it, wipe his brow, then return the treasure with some hilarious remark about sanitary habits. I immediately imagined how other singers would react to this gesture, but I digress.

“I am so excited to bring my Live from Las Vegas album to life and to share it with my fans. Also, I’m really looking forward to going on tour and performing for everyone this summer -- it’s going to be one big party,” Richie stated in a press release. His new album is set to release on August 23rd.

So far, Richie has sold over 90 million records worldwide and is one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. Among many prestigious awards won, he earned a Grammy for Song of the Year in 1985 for "We Are the World," which he co-wrote with Michael Jackson. Lately he has been in the limelight as a kind, level-headed judge on ABC’s American Idol.

With his show’s spectacular production, high energy and masterful performances, this celebration should not be missed. Richie’s timeless tunes on the “Hello Tour” in Norfolk, Virginia definitely delighted the masses with his legendary funk, soul, rhythm and blues, and love songs.
