State Champs are a five piece pop punk band that is the Green Day or Fall Out Boy of this generation. Their musical range includes acoustic songs all the way to full on rock with funky bass lines and a heart rattling kick drum.
State Champs sold out a rowdy House of Blues Boston on March 9th. They brought the energy of an outdoor summer festival to Boston in the dead of winter. You could tell from the crowd that this had been a long awaited show; there wasn’t a single moment where you didn’t see fans crowd surfing their way to the stage
State Champs is led by front man Derek DiScanio. Derek made everyone in that crowd feel like he was here for them and this wasn’t State Champs concert it was Boston’s concert. It felt like they were there for Boston. The whole band brought everything they had to this set, Tyler Szalkowski and Tony Diaz ripped riffs on guitars that added complex components to the songs.
Ryan Scott Graham is one of the biggest bass personas I have witnessed on a stage. He owned every inch of the House of Blues stage while laying down the rhythm along with Evan Ambrosio on drums.
State Champs have the energy and music we need in this generation. Their music speaks to volumes of people, and allows you to feel understood. If you haven’t seen them, put them on your list. You will not be disappointed!!
