Austin, Texas rockers The Bright Light Social Hour ’s North American tour brought them back to Victoria B.C. once again, this time playing to a crowded Upstairs Cabaret on a Tuesday night.
Upstairs Cabaret sits facing the ocean above the popular Darcy’s Pub in downtown’s historic Bastion Square . I had the opportunity to meet up with Jackie, Curtis, Edward and Joseph before their set to snap a few portraits in the square as the sun was setting.
As I entered the venue, German electronica trio Sea Moya had the crowd dancing around in the dark and moody lighting. The Bright Light Social Hour had even taken to the crowd to dance to Sea Moya ’s set after our portrait session.
Backlit with a curtain of colourful lights and psychedelic video projections, The Bright Light Social Hour took to the stage, performing a set full of hits from their albums ‘Jude Vol. 1’, ‘Space Is Still the Place’ and their 2012 self-titled album.
I’ve had the pleasure of photographing The Bright Light Social Hour at various festivals and venues over the past few years - every time is different, and they never disappoint.
Their North American tour in support of ‘Jude Vol. 1’ runs until June 1st, 2019. If you’ve never had the opportunity to see this band live, I highly recommend that you do. Their catchy songs, colourful stage lighting, and energetic stage presence combined make for the quintessential rock ‘n roll experience that isn’t one to be missed.
